Kimmeridge Court is a newly constructed eating disorder clinic located at St. Ann’s Hospital in Poole, Dorset. The facility, operated by Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust, was built to address the national shortage of patient beds for eating disorder treatment, and is the only dedicated unit for such treatment in the Dorset region. The service is designed to treat patients with eating disorders as well as accommodating their families and caregivers.
In a project like this, furniture must be robust, secure, dependable, and easy to clean. Our products are designed to meet these needs while combining them with a welcoming aesthetic which avoids the stigmatising effects which some healthcare environments can have.
By listening to our clients’ concerns about prioritising comfort, reducing concealment opportunities, and avoiding an institutionalised feel, we were able to design a bespoke Rock chair with soft pressure-relieving foam seat and back pads. This adjustment is designed to accommodate the extended periods of time ED patients may spend in the dining room and aims to relieve discomfort and minimise distress surrounding mealtimes.
Our unique JAK de-escalation couch was chosen for use in specialised private therapy/treatment rooms. Developed in association with mental health consultants Andy Johnston Associates, JAK is designed to make physical restraint safer and more dignified for patients, while reducing staff injuries.
In areas of relaxation, our Boden Donut beanbag was chosen to provide a safe space that can help calm individuals or provide a sense of comfort and security, which can be soothing and help reduce stress and uneasiness.
The unit also opted for Helix armchairs and Helix 3-Seaters, which offers a generous seating area and feature wrap-around winged arms that provide a comforting embrace for the user. Our Snug modular seating range was also chosen for lounge areas, offering the flexibility to create comfortable and welcoming social spaces.
Our Purl chair range has been thoughtfully designed with a 480mm seat height to accommodate users who may have mobility concerns. Additionally, a fixed upholstered seat cushion featuring CMHR foam helps to deter misuse, while all upholstery is tested to meet at least CRIB 5 fire safety rating. Our Purl range features standard reinforcement for strength and stability and the wrap-around design provides dependable support.
Vee arm chairs, with their one-piece soft padded design were selected as desk chairs in bedroom spaces. Vee’s ergonomic shape and soft foam can aid in reducing pressure points, ensuring maximum comfort during extended periods of sitting. In addition to its ergonomic benefits, the Vee seating range is also easy to stack, making it convenient for storage or rearrangement of furniture.
Also included throughout the new build included our Eclipse low-back chair, Rubus 2-seater and Harby cupboards which included lockable doors to meet their specific needs.
Kimmeridge Court has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community since its unveiling. With its bright, airy, and well-lit environment, Kimmeridge Court was a project we were delighted to have been a part of. We take great pride in supplying furniture that is tailored to meet our clients’ unique requirements, and we remain committed to providing an exceptional level of service to all our clients.
