The Boden Rocker is designed to allow users to control how much vestibular input they receive, and to do so in a position which is low to the ground, making them feel safe and in control of their situation.
We discovered that gentle, controllable vestibular stimulation provides comfort and calm. Through its round donut-shaped design, the rocker provides a reassuring feeling of wrap-around contact and allows people to self-soothe by rocking back and forth on the floor.
As part of the development process of the Boden Rocker, we trialled a prototype at 2 mental health hospitals (Adult and CAMHS) and sought feedback from healthcare professionals.
This valuable feedback helped our design team to refine the design to achieve maximum benefit for the users and caregivers.
The design of the Rocker was recognised at the 2023 Nightingale Awards, where it was awarded both Innovation and Gold awards within the patient seating category.
