HMP Fosse Way is a brand-new category C male resettlement prison which opened in Wigston, Leicester in early 2023, and is the second ‘smart’ prison to be opened in the UK.
The aim of a ‘smart’ prison is to combine safe design, modern technology, and a new methodical approach to rehabilitation to create a new state-of-the-art new prisons programme. The ethos of this new prison is a strong focus on education and providing offenders the chance to develop and learn key skills in vocational industries to enable them to successfully re-enter the workforce upon release.
Within this secure institution, Pineapple was chosen to provide a variety of furniture for office spaces and heavy-traffic communal spaces. In the communal corridor areas, over 800 Bold chairs in Cool Green were coupled with Cumulus Dining tables with Hickory wood tops.
Bold is a versatile lightweight stacking chair set apart by its extreme strength and resistance to damage. Ryno® coffee tables are used throughout HMP Fosse Way’s extensive visitors space.
The tough, durable design has been tested to withstand severe contract use, and its heavy weight, one-piece design deters mishandling. This product is also able to be floor-fixed to further prevent misuse. Doorne Plus modular seating provides a versatile seating arrangement when more additional seating is required in communal areas.
The Busypod XL acoustic pod has been utilised as a flexible meeting place that provides privacy and makes an ideal space for video calls. Finding a quiet space within large open areas can be difficult, which is where our Acoustic Pod range provides an ideal solution. Integrated technology is safely housed within the system and a fire sprinkler system incorporated into the structure ensures this is a safe system for everyday use.
At Pineapple we have years of experience working within the custodial sector, so when we were asked to supply furniture for this project, we were happy to be part of creating a successful outcome.
