Willmar Behavioural Health

The furniture selection process for this new facility placed particular importance on durability, safety and aiding in safe observation practices for staff.

Reduced-ligature design features were a high-priority requirement for this new Child and Adolescent Behavioural Health Hospital (CABHH) located in Willmar, MN. The facility was designed to provide inpatient services for children and young people aged between 6 and 18 years of age, which called for an inclusive interior design approach that would be suitable for a wide range of ages.

Boden beanbag chairs provide relaxed seating in recreation areas, offering a comfortable spot for reading, gaming or watching TV. Products in our Boden range have anti-tamper features such as zip-heads removed and oversewn -making them inaccessible- to prevent misuse. Our beanbag filling is made from 100% recycled content, making use of waste foam from the manufacture of our soft seating ranges.

Within the reception area, Ryno® Lounge Chairs in a variety of shades from our versatile colour palette – Vegas Yellow, Epic blue, Icon Purple and Cool Green compliment the bright murals on the wall and the vibrant circular clouds that descend from the ceiling. Colour can play a key role in behavioural health environments, minimising the clinical atmosphere and helping to humanise spaces.

Our Ryno lounge chairs are made from a single piece of recyclable polyethylene. This design with flowing curves and an absence of joints helps to dissipate any impact stresses, providing lasting durability in the face of extreme treatment.

Optional ballast can be added (to 80kg) to make these chairs near-impossible to pick up or use as a weapon. The chairs are totally water-resistant, which means this range is quick to clean and dry, ready to be used again straight away.

Our Contessa Foam Drum were selected in-lieu of coffee tables. Contessa’s modular design provides a soft modular table, seat or footstool option for a variety of spaces throughout the centre, such as media rooms, waiting spaces and bedrooms. Zip heads are removed and oversewn to prevent tampering.

Cumulus dining tables were used alongside our Ryno dining chairs within dining room spaces. Cumulus has been constructed with a high-pressure laminate surface and a strong powdercoated steel base.

The furniture selection process for this new facility placed particular importance on durability, safety and aiding in safe observation practices for staff. Thanks to thoughtful design and vibrant colour choices, the resulting space combines dependable safety with an atmosphere of hope and vitality.
