In situations where a patient is in severe distress and verbal de-escalation techniques have proven ineffective, physical intervention may be used as a last resort to prevent the patient causing harm to themselves and others. During physical intervention staff will aim to restrict the patient’s movements using the minimum force required, maintaining patient dignity. These interventions can be physically demanding, presenting risk of injury.
We designed JAK to help preserve patient dignity and reduce staff injuries. Through live service evaluations with clinical professionals, we have optimised every angle of the couch for safer de-escalation practices.
